The last week has ripped apart our naivety about the threat posed by the billionaire media’s five-year, 24/7 promotion of Reform and Nigel Farage.
That naivety assumed we had until the next general election to fight off the takeover of our institutions.
The naivety was that we ignored the basic maths.
Our establishment institutions have always been dominated by public school and other Tories. Over the last five years, the propaganda switch by the foreign media billionaires who have captured British media — from backing the Tories to backing Reform — has resulted in around half of Tories switching to backing Reform.
Reform did not need to wait for a general election to start infiltrating the institutions where Tories led. They are already there, inside our gates.
Reform now hold many of the positions of power previously held by Tories who have switched allegiance, inside:
- the BBC
- police forces
- harbour authorities
- national and local newspapers
- regulators
- local councils
- trade unions
- corporations
- the judiciary
- the civil service
We saw it in Kent police allowing black-masked protesters to block Dover Port for hours without any action.
We saw it in the BBC giving lead-story treatment to Farage dismissing corruption allegations we could see with our own eyes, with Laura Kuenssberg summing it up by saying he “may need to listen more carefully”.
We saw it in harbour masters blocking RNLI lifeboats from returning to harbour with rescued migrants.
We saw it in a Tory MP declaring that we need to abolish all the human rights enshrined in the European Convention on Human Rights in order to stop protests against small boat crossings.
Why the ECHR is the target
The billionaire media want to destroy the ECHR because it is the only bulwark left blocking them from implementing their oligarchic, authoritarian utopia, in which they can crush any opposition to their climate-trashing kleptocracy.
The tool they are using to divide and rule us is their endless propaganda about a supposed flood of “military-aged men” invading Britain.
Despite the collapse in net migration, despite the sharp drop in small boat crossings in 2026, the billionaire media’s headlines keep screaming about a flood of “rapists and murderers” invading our shores.
As a result, huge numbers of Britons still believe migrant crossings are soaring, and believe the lies that huge numbers of crimes and assaults on women are being committed by these “military-aged male” refugees.
Which is why Friday matters
All of this means it is more urgent than ever that we halt the insanity of allowing authoritarian foreign billionaires to capture our democracy by buying up almost all of our national media.
It means it is more urgent than ever that we pass the Media Sovereignty Act and end media billionairism for good.
But it also means that even when we have passed the Act, there will still be a huge job to cleanse the public, our body politic and our institutions of the propaganda the media billionaires have been soaking us in for years.
