The Directors of the Media Sovereignty Act Campaign are Donnachadh McCarthy and Caspar Hughes.

Donnachadh McCarthy is the founder of the Climate Media Coalition and a director of the Media Sovereignty Act Campaign.
He was the Weekly Climate Columnist for The Independent and has had articles published in the Guardian, the Times, the Ecologist, Resurgence, Byline Times, etc.
He was a regular panellist on The Climate Show hosted by Sky News. He is a frequent national media commentator on a range of environmental topics.
He has appeared on The Today Programme, BBC Breakfast, Good Morning Britain, Radio 5 Live, GB News, TalkTV, Times Radio, and LBC, among others.
Donnachadh is the author of Saving the Planet Without Costing the Earth, Easy Eco-auditing, and The Prostitute State – How Britain’s Democracy Has Been Bought.
He is the co-founder of the successful cycling campaign group Stop Killing Cyclists. His environmental consultancy 3 Acorns Eco-audits helps deliver the Corporation of London’s City Bridge Trust eco-auditing programme for London charities.
After 34 years of environmental political activism, Donnachadh is convinced that we need a revolution in British media ownership, transferring it from the 0.01% to the 99.99%.
This is in order to reclaim our democracy from the media billionaire class, who have hijacked it to pursue their illiberal, authoritarian and oligarchic agendas. Which, in turn, sucks up wealth from the 99.99% for their tiny 0.01%, leaving the working class impoverished and our climate trashed.
We need to remove the political blockage they have placed in the way of the urgent climate and nature actions needed to prevent the destruction of the climate and nature.
Donnachadh says,
“In my extensive career, I have come across visceral fear of ‘the Daily Mail test’ across all sections of British society and its establishments.
It is time to end this hijacking of our democracy once and for all.
This is why I am so passionate about getting the Media Sovereignty Act adopted as quickly as possible. “

Caspar Hughes grew up on Dartmoor, surrounded by the wild moorland, to which he has always felt connected. This upbringing helped instil a healthy love of wildlife and nature.
He spent much of his career working in transport, including running the largest cycle courier department in London and the cycling events company Rollapaluza.
It was while organising cycling events that Caspar started getting involved in campaigning. He became joint-organiser of Stop Killing Cyclists, the successful London cycling campaign group.
Stop Killing Cyclists was instrumental in pressuring London’s mayor to build a network of safe cycle lanes and implement a policy to make HGVs safer. He is also currently a trustee for the charity Wheels for Wellbeing.
As a director of the Climate Media Coalition, Caspar helped lobby the UNFCC to include a Global Media Summit at COP26 in Glasgow.
Caspar was also one of the 15 people arrested at the Extinction Rebellion launch event in Parliament Square.
He has been actively involved in campaigning for a free press and the protection of climate and nature with numerous groups.
Caspar says,
“I believe deeply that the most urgent political issue of our time that needs tackling, if we are to create a safer future for ourselves and our children, is ending the usurpation of political power by the billionaire media owners.
They are successfully persuading the UK population to vote against their own best interests. This must stop”
This is why I have committed myself to do what it takes to get the Media Sovereignty Act passed.
