Urgent Call For Liberal Democrat Party Members!!

Are YOU or someone you know a Liberal Democrat Party Member (England, Wales or Scotland)?

The Media Sovereignty Campaign is looking for local Lib Dem Party members who would be willing to submit the Media Sovereignty Act to their local parties for endorsement for submission to Regional, National and Federal Party Conferences.

We will be running out this campaign to all parties, trade unions, etc.

Billionaire Media Owners Ignore or Trash The Lib Dems

The UK’s current concentrated billionaire media ownership structure is seriously biased against liberalism, freedom, human rights, climate and nature protection and either ignores or trashes the Liberal Democrats.

But with the threat of the billionaire-owned media promoting Reform and Tory fascism (24/7), now is a crucial time to create momentum to get the parties to adopt the provisions of the Media.

Liberal Democrats in Parliament have already fought Labour’s attempts to allow foreign states to buy larger shares of UK media.

The Media Sovereignty Act will end media billionaire domination completely.

We wanted to set this Lib Dem ball rolling asap.

The Mandelson scandal exposes the urgency of reclaiming our media ownership from the authoritarian billionaires who have hijacked our media and politics.

Yes We Can!

The Media Sovereignty Act 2026

British-owned media for the British people!

A sovereign-owned media is essential for a genuinely free people and a fair, thriving democracy for everybody in the United Kingdom.

The Media Sovereignty Act establishes the regulations and systems by which the United Kingdom reclaims, protects and enhances its media sovereignty for its nations and its peoples.

The Media Sovereignty Act:

  • Bans foreign ownership of UK media[1].
  • Bans the concentration of UK media ownership, e.g. by the super-rich and large corporations[2].
  • Distributes media ownership across all sections of UK society[3].
  • Protects people from media abuse by requiring all relevant media to be members of their statutory regulator.
  • Requires all think-tanks covered in the media to report their donations in real time.

WHY do we need the Media Sovereignty Act?

In order to reclaim the loss of the British people’s sovereignty over our media, the Media Sovereignty Campaign has been established to pass the Media Sovereignty Act

Our British media has been hijacked by an illiberal international and national billionaire elite, which is causing havoc and destruction across almost every section of British society.

Our democracy, our environment, our climate, our human rights and our commitment to international law and institutions are being decimated.
We need a revolution in British media ownership.

We need to take back control of our media ownership for the British people from the authoritarian billionaire elite.

The Media Sovereignty Act addresses five key issues to reclaim sovereignty for the British people over our media:

  • Our media should be free from offshore billionaire ownership.
  • Our media ownership should reflect ALL sections of society, not just be concentrated among the rich.
  • Independent, local and cooperative-owned media should be fairly funded via a levy on the giant social media corporations.
  • Britons should be protected from media abuse of power by fair regulation.
  • The British media should be freed from dark-money billionaire-funded think-tanks corrupting our media agendas.

You cannot have a free and fair democracy if all media and political power is monopolised and bought by a tiny international and national billionaire elite.
It is time for the Media Sovereignty Act!

  1. British-owned means owned only by UK-domiciled persons or by a UK-headquartered company, all of whose owners or shareholders are only UK-domiciled persons. ↩︎
  2. The term ‘media’ covers national press, broadcasters and social media. ↩︎
  3. This would be done by imposing a Media Sovereignty Levy on large international social media corporations to help fund independent, local, and co-operatively owned media organisations.  ↩︎
