The German billionaire-owned Telegraph has reported that Burnham “is not squeamish” about cutting benefits to fund a higher arms budget!
For years, the billionaire-owned media have been pumping out propaganda demanding that the UK agree to raise UK arms funding to the 5% level demanded by Trump.
There is now an emerging disastrous political consensus among the billionaire media-captured political parties to accede to this.
Burnham has not stated which pensioner or disabled support he will cut.
But nobody is questioning what the funding is for, other than the reasonable fact that Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.
Arms Budget Madness
So let us look at the actual defence budgets maths:
- $100 billion: UK Arms Budget
- $613 billion: European Arms Budget
- $126 Russian Arms Budget
So the Russian arms budget in the middle of a hot war is just 20% of the combined European arms budget.
It is true that European arms spending is inefficient, as much of it is split into national budgets.
But that makes the argument for greater integration into a European defence force rather than raising the budget still further.
And it also needs to be pointed out that much of the UK’s arms budget has been squandered on projects that no longer work in modern warfare.
This is now based on unmanned aerial and underwater drones, rather than hugely expensive jets, tanks and warships.
Arms budgets need to refocus on modern warfare needs, not just on a huge increase in wasteful arms spending.
Burnham’s Starmerism?
So why on earth is Burnham pledging to do another Starmerist equivalent of the Winter Fuel Allowance and Disability benefit cuts?
Just to appease the media billionaires and the Blairite right of the Labour Party, with the disabled and pensioners again paying the costs!
The simple answer is that the unaccountable political power of the UK’s billionaire media currently trumps democracy almost every time.
The billionaire media NEVER reports that the UK already spends far less on state pensions than most other advanced economies, according to research from the House of Commons Library.
It is time to end media billionaireism for good.

Currently, many are corruptly dark-money funded by foreign billionaires, oil corporations and others to run propaganda campaigns to manipulate UK government policy in favour of their billionaire vested interests.
