Like millions of others, I was delighted that Burnham defeated the far-right in the Makerfield by-election. Even if I fear the self-declared zionist and genocide denier Burnham may not make the radical changes in policy needed.
But I was horrified at the size of the far-right vote!
Too many commentators focused on the positive win and dismissed the size of the far-right vote.
This, to my mind, is lethal political complacency, in the face of a continuing full-scale assault on our liberal democracy by a tiny cabal of far-right, largely offshore media billionaires.

Makerfield Constituency Hard-Right Vote:
Let us look at the rise of the far-right vote in Makerfield constituency, in Labour’s supposed heartland.
2017 General Election : 0%
2019 General Election: 13.1% (Brexit Party)
2024 General Election: 32.7% (Reform 31.8, English Democrats 0.9%)
2026 By-election: 43.5% (Reform 34.5, Restore 6.8, Tory 2.2)
Definition Of Far Right
I have included the Tory Party as now being hard-right.
This is because, following the switch of the former Tory billionaire media to the hard-right, the Tories under BadEnoch have abandoned their former centre-right position and now share the trifecta of core hard-right policies shared by Restore and Reform.
These are:
- Destruction of human rights and the judiciary’s role in protecting us from billionaire exploitation.
- Destruction of the climate & nature on which our food production depends by the billionaire oil industry.
- Full-scale racist war on migrants and minorities such as trans people to divide the 99% and protect the billionaire kleptocracy.
So the key question is WHY has the far-right racist vote soared in Makerfield?
The key answer is that after winning the Brexit Referendum after decades of non-stop propaganda lies about the European Union, the UK’s billionaire media switched from backing the Tories, after about 2020, to backing far-right Reform.
They literally set about destroying the then One Nation Tory Party as they were seen by the billionaire media as being “too left-wing”!
The billionaire media started pumping out pro-Reform propaganda 24/7.

They replaced their wall-to-wall Brexit propaganda with wall-to-wall propaganda demanding the 3 far-right attributes I listed above:
- The tearing up of the Human Rights Act and the independent judiciary.
- Constant demonisation of legal migrants and refugees.
- Full-out war to destroy climate and wildlife action that protects our food security.
Billionaire Media Propaganda Results
This flood of far-right propaganda in just 5 years has already resulted in:
- Soaring poll ratings for far-right Reform.
- The election of the first far-right MPs in the 2024 general election. (Reform).
- The Tory Party moving to the far right.
- The promotion of the small number of Restore Party MPs to being de facto Official Opposition and next government-in-waiting by the billionaire press.
How To Defeat Rise Of Far-Right
It is time we fought back to defend our threatened liberal democracy from these offshore-based, deeply racist fascists.
Their 24/7 propaganda foments racist divisions, exploits the impoverishment of the British working class caused by the austerity policies the billionaire media forced on all Labour and Tory governments, to protect the massive tax avoidance by the billionairist elite.
We will not create a free and fair democracy until we end the capture of our media by the media billionaire extreme elite.
The top four priorities to halt this fascist, racist, violent surge are:
- Supplementary Vote
Urgent Implementation of Supplementary Vote (as we have for mayoral elections) for the next general election.
It ensures that any elected MP has the backing of a majority of support in their constituency. - Media Sovereignty Act
Adoption of the Media Sovereignty Act, which bans media billionairism and imposes a Social Media Levy on global tech billionaires like Musk, to fund independent and local British journalism. - Ecopopulism
Adoption of genuine Eco-populism by the political parties, opposing the new trio of far-right fascist parties (Reform Tory Restore ), that ensures all eco-policies cut living costs for low-income families, funded by the rich carbon-polluting classes. - Address Social Housing Crisis
Actually address the social housing crisis that is causing devastating hardship for too many low-income families, rather than talking about it.
All parties have failed to tackle this crisis since Thatcher disastrously started the sell-off of social housing, without using the proceeds to build the next generation of social housing.
Far too many homes are also lying empty as investment properties or second homes, or underused by single occupants.
It is time to ban offshore ownership of UK homes, as many other countries do, to protect their working class from investor-caused house-price inflation.
It is time to address decades of market failure to build the homes needed. We need Regional House Building Corporations to address this market failure and finally procure empty homes & build any remaining social housing.
