Freedom and British Media Sovereignty
You Cannot Have Freedom or True British Sovereignty if Our Media is Foreign & International Billionaire Captured.
The fact that a significant majority of Britain’s print, broadcast and social media have been captured by offshore media billionaires means that what should be our British media reflects their vested interests, not the interests of British businesses, the British economy or the people who live in Britain.
With the South African social-media billionaire and Twitter owner Elon Musk threatening to “tear down the British state,” now is a crucial time for Reform members to protect Britain by adopting the provisions of the Media Sovereignty Act.
Foreign Billionaires Have Captured Britain’s Media
The last Conservative government introduced a 15% cap on foreign states buying our media, as they understood the threat to our democracy posed by foreign states owning it.
But no restrictions have been placed by the Labour government on foreign-based or international billionaires owning ALL of our media.
Recently, the Labour government allowed the Telegraph group to be captured by a German media billionaire.
- The Times, Sun & Times Radio are owned by a US/Australian billionaire
- The Daily Mail group is owned by a Monaco-based billionaire.
- Sky News is owned by US billionaire corporation Comcast.
- Channel 5 is owned by US billionaire Dan Ellison.
- Amazon, Google & Facebook are US billionaire-owned.
Taking Back Control
The Media Sovereignty Act will end international media billionaire domination of Britain.
The Mandelson scandal exposes the urgency of reclaiming our media ownership from the offshore media billionaires who have hijacked our British media and politics.
It is time to take back control from these international media billionaires.
We need British-owned media for a British-owned democracy.

Sovereign-owned media is essential for a genuinely free British people and a fair, thriving democracy for everybody living in the United Kingdom.
The Media Sovereignty Act establishes the regulations and systems by which the United Kingdom reclaims, protects and enhances its media sovereignty for its nations and its peoples.

The Media Sovereignty Act:
The Media Sovereignty Act campaign has five measures:
1. Bans foreign media ownership.
Just 3 foreign billionaires own 77% of UK newspapers.
2. Bans the concentration of UK national media ownership by one person or corporation.
Just 7 media billionaires own almost all UK newspapers & social media.
3. Funds independent and local media with a Social Media Levy.
Over two-thirds of all UK media advertising is siphoned off by three huge US tech-billionaire corporations, leading to 1,000s of UK journalists being fired and the decimation of UK national and local news production.
4. Requires national media to be under the remit of the statutory regulator.
The billionaire media refused to join the independent media regulator Impress after the phone-hacking scandals. The billionaire media instead “self-regulate.”
5. Requires “dark-money funded think-tanks” that are covered by the media to declare donations in real time.
Think-tanks are privately funded policy institutions seeking to influence government policy.
Currently, many are corruptly dark-money funded by foreign billionaires, oil corporations and others to run propaganda campaigns to manipulate UK government policy in favour of their billionaire vested interests.
Actions Reform Party Members Can Take:
1. Submit the Media Sovereignty Act to your local Reform constituency party for endorsement and submission to the party’s regional, national and UK conferences.
